Keep the Fire Lit

It was today, 24 years ago when The Doors' had their song "LIGHT MY FIRE" hitting the number one on the Billboard charts. Although written and performed in a very different context, Anna has done the job for the Indians in 2011.

For many years, we have been looking for a leader who can unite us to fight with fire in our belly. We have sufferred injustice in our daily lives, in our personal and professional lives. We have been miserably cheated with our tax money filling up Swiss Bank caufers. We have seen and been the part of the corrupt system to such an extent that we had almost given up on it - considering it a way of life. We had given up the idea of ever fighting and struggling to even try to kill this monster of corruption. But then came along Anna.

And now I have the fire and I am not singing Light my Fire any more.

I am now hoping and praying that this fire will last...really long! As it will take a long time to solve the problem. The problem is corruption, while Lokpal Bill is the current agenda. So the first and immediate target could to get Jan Lokpal Bill passed. Anna and his team are fighting for it. In whatever form this gets passed or not, one thing is clear - THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

It is the beginning of the rise of India's middle class. It is the beginning of the realisation of their strength - their power to actually influence the government. It is the the beginning of the understanding that we Indians do not prioritise caste, religion, background as much as growth, good governance and justice. The first fight is just to make the politician understand it as well. Most of them will take a long to understand as only few may jump out of their wells to see the new Middle Class India Movement!

For all those who might feel frustrated or disappointed, do note that this fight will take many curves and bends before we reach our final destination which may be years or decades away. This is not a 2 week battle... this is the beginning of what may be a decade long war. We have to change the mindsets, the lifestyles, the thought process of ours and that of our politicians & government officers.

So keep the fire lit as it takes decades of friction to light it up. This is a start of a revolution. Be a part of it...one way or another!
